Freestyle Team
Training
The freestyle team runs two hour training sessions weekly in
semester blocks. All of our sessions are coached and we supplement our training with indooe trampolining sessions to get those rotations down and ready to use on the slope. AU vans full of music and debauchery will transport athletes to and from the slope, McDonalds, and St Andrews. Get ready to get sendy!
Competitions
The freestyle team competes at Scottish and British University Dryslope Competitions (SUDS and BUDS), Granite City, and Scottish University Indoor Skiing Championships (SUISC) during a typical year. SUDS focuses on big air jumps and highflying action and takes place in Glasgow. BUDS is typically the biggest competition where freestyle and race team up to take the party to Edinburgh in what is sometimes called the 'mini ski trip'. Granite City and SUISC take place second semester and provide a casual vibe where skiers can qualify to compete at the British University Indoor Skiing Championships, and there are good nights out for everyone. Competitions are not just for competitors but also provide good tunes and times for spectators. Social members and those not competing are welcome to join to support the team from the slope side.
Experience
The freestyle team welcomes boarders, skiers, and senders of all abilities to the team! We advise that those wanting to join are comfortable on skis or a board and able to make it down a slope without falling. No experience with freestyle is expected; most of our members (including the last three captains) start with little to no background in freestyle skiing. Many who join in first year have the opportunity to compete at our competitions if they want. The team excels in having a good time before, during, and after appearing on the slope.
